DO THE RIGHT THING FOR THE PEOPLE

Dear Elected Officials,

Let’s get one thing straight: you work for us. The people. Not your donors, not your party, not your lobbyist golf buddies — us. And we are watching. We are fed up. And we are, frankly, wondering if a single spine still exists among you.

We didn’t send you to Washington, or to our state capitols, to play games with our lives. We didn’t vote for you to protect your seat or climb the ladder. We sent you there to DO THE RIGHT THING. For the families rationing insulin. For the teachers buying supplies out of their own paychecks. For the veterans sleeping in tents under overpasses. For the single moms working two jobs and still praying the car starts in the morning. For the seniors choosing between food and medicine.

This is not a political pep rally. This is a goddamn plea.

Do the right thing — not the easy thing. Not the profitable thing. Not the thing your poll-tested consultants say will get a few more likes on social media. You were elected to serve, not to cower, not to spin, not to sell your soul for a PAC donation.

You have the power to make real change. So why aren’t you using it? Why aren’t you fixing a healthcare system that bankrupts people for daring to get sick? Why aren’t you standing up for working people while CEOs hoard billions and pay zero taxes? Why aren’t you protecting voting rights with the urgency our democracy demands?

Instead, you’re letting book bans slide. You’re letting bigots legislate hate. You’re arguing over gas stoves and Bud Light while the planet burns, children go hungry, and infrastructure crumbles. You’re staging endless hearings to score points while your constituents drown in student debt and wage stagnation.

We see you.

We see your silence when it matters most. We see your loyalty to dark money and extremist platforms. We see your refusal to call out corruption in your own ranks. And worst of all, we see your cowardice wrapped in red, white, and blue, pretending to be patriotism.

Let’s be clear: this is not about left versus right. It’s about right versus wrong. And too many of you are choosing wrong — repeatedly, shamelessly, and with full awareness of the damage you’re doing.

You’re not “leaders” when you follow polls and donors more than your conscience. You’re not “serving the people” when you spend more time at fundraisers than town halls. And you’re certainly not “defending democracy” when you enable lies, fear, and authoritarianism for personal gain.

This moment in history is a test of character. Will you be remembered as one of the brave few who stood up when it counted? Or as yet another footnote in the decline of a nation that deserved better?

The people are rising. We are voting. We are organizing. We are calling out hypocrisy and holding receipts. And we are no longer accepting the bare minimum from those in power. If you can’t stomach the heat of doing the right thing — resign. Let someone with courage take your place.

Because this country needs bold leadership. It needs moral clarity. It needs politicians who remember they are public servants, not public celebrities.

So here it is, in plain words:

Stop the performative nonsense.

Stop the partisan cruelty.

Stop serving power — and start serving people.

Do. The. Right. Thing.

We’ll be watching — and voting.

Sincerely,

The People You Work For
