Lawfare, my ASS!

Dear Esteemed Readers,

In the annals of human folly, there exists a peculiar breed of charlatan whose audacity knows no bounds. These individuals, when ensnared by the very laws they swore to uphold, bellow cries of “lawfare,” attempting to cloak their misdeeds beneath a veneer of victimhood. It is a spectacle as old as time, yet no less repugnant for its familiarity.

Consider, if you will, the case of one Donald J. Trump. Here is a man who, upon facing the consequences of his own actions, decries the legal system as a partisan weapon wielded against him. His former attorney, Todd Blanche, stands before the Senate, lamenting the “partisan lawfare” besieging his client, all the while assuring us of his unwavering commitment to impartiality. The irony is so thick one could slice it with a butter knife.

Not to be outdone in this theater of the absurd, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel graces the stage with his own rendition of the “lawfare” lament. Indicted on charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust, Netanyahu portrays himself as the hapless victim of a judicial witch hunt. His supporters, ever eager to parrot his proclamations, denounce the International Criminal Court’s actions as “illegitimate” and “politicized,” as if the mere repetition of these words might transmute falsehood into truth.

It is a curious phenomenon, this invocation of “lawfare.” One might be forgiven for assuming it refers to a valiant struggle against oppressive regimes. Instead, it has become the refuge of scoundrels who, when confronted with their own malfeasance, seek to discredit the very institutions designed to maintain justice and order.

The term “lawfare” is brandished as a talisman, intended to deflect scrutiny and engender sympathy. Yet, upon closer inspection, it reveals itself to be nothing more than a smokescreen, a desperate gambit by those who would rather obfuscate than own their transgressions.

In my seventy two years upon this earth, I have borne witness to a cavalcade of political chicanery, but seldom have I encountered such a brazen attempt to gaslight the public. To watch these figures, ensnared by their own hubris, attempt to recast themselves as martyrs is to witness the theater of the grotesque.

Let us not be swayed by their protestations. The rule of law is not a partisan cudgel, but the bedrock of a civilized society. To undermine it is to invite chaos; to mock it is to court anarchy. We must remain vigilant against those who would erode our institutions for their own gain, lest we find ourselves adrift in a sea of corruption and deceit.

Yours in steadfast indignation,

Julie Bolejack, MBA
